Sarangan Lake

Sarangan Lake also known as Sand Lake is a natural lake that lies at the foot of Mount Lawu in the district of Plaosan, Magetan District, East Java. Located about 16 km west of the city Magetan. Deep lake are about 30 hectares and 28 meters. With air temperatures between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius, Sarangan Lake able to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.


Sarangan Lake a pivotal Magetan famous places. Around the lake there are two stars, 43 hotels of jasmine, and 18 holiday cottages. In addition to the dozens of souvenir stalls, visitors can also enjoy the beautiful Sarangani with riding around the lake, or driving a motor boat. other tourist facilities available, such as restaurants, a playground, market visits, parking, public telephone services, places of worship and parks.

The presence of 19 restaurants around the lake makes visitors have many choices of menu options. Similarly, the presence of street vendors selling a variety of souvenirs available for visitors to buy souvenirs. Specialties are sold around the lake is a rabbit sate.

Magetan also helped with the potential for small local industries that produce handicrafts, souvenirs, such as woven bamboo, leather crafts, and typical food such as chips and melinjo the plate (from rice crackers).

Sarangan Lake has a boat rental service and water rickshaw. There are 51 boats and 13 water tricycles that can be used to explore the lake.

Sarangan Lake has several major annual event calendar, which is the anchor of tenders in the month Friday Ruwah Pon, mid-year school holidays, Ledug Sura 1 Muharram, and fireworks at New Year.


Local district government was doing the step that connects the project with Sarangan Lake attractions Tawangmangu in Karanganyar District. Expansion of the project and stagnant steep road that connects the two regions are expected to be completed in 2007.

These sites can be reached by Magetan City, and its location just off the Falls Grojogan Sewu, Tawangmangu (Karanganyar district, Central Java).

Magetan government also wants to develop Poncol Reservoir (about 10 miles south of Lake Sarangani) as an alternative tourist attraction and as a means to cope with water shortages in some areas of Magetan District.
